Leaders are always busy. Every day, we are flooded with meetings, e-mails, phone calls and important tasks. Millions of dollars are made helping us keep it all organized in planners, software and gadgets.
One of the best ways I’ve learned to keep the clutter down is to do immediately what can be done within five minutes. If you can make the call quickly or shoot the reply off within minutes, just do it. Don’t let the list pile up with simple tasks that can be done in moments. You still need to prioritize your tasks, but get the little stuff out of the way now, if it won’t distract you from the big tasks of the day.
You’ll find yourself feeling more in control of your day if you’ll not let the small stuff pile up. As I write this post, I haven’t talked to my brother in several weeks. I think I’ll just make the call…
